The spectacular Night Queen cactus only opens her flowers at night. It only flowers once a year, and then just for a single night. This is an astonishing valentine’s day flowers, typical of plants that use up their reproductive energy rapidly.

A very rapid natural growth rate characterizes this plant. An evergreen cactus that grows in the forests of México, America, and even southern Brazil. No actual leaves exist on this plant; rather, the stems have been adapted to act as leaves to aid water storage in arid environments.
- Conditions Necessary for Soil
Because of its unusual requirements, Epiphyllum oxypetalum stands out among cacti. Growing conditions for most plants are too damp to allow for complete soil drying without killing the plants. The soil should be somewhat acidic for this plant to thrive.

- Make sure the plants are getting enough to eat
If you want to start fertilizing your plants, you may use this liquid plant food from Schultz. It gets the job done, but we found that giving this plant some of my fertilizer brought out its best. Plants that hadn’t blossomed before started to bloom exotically the year after dried banana peels were applied. Since banana peels are nitrogen-free, they may be used in conjunction with other types of fertilizer. Banana peels may be dried in a dryer or oven at a low temperature.
